Windowsill Garden Plants

If you’re still avoiding the spring clean, it’s time to spring into action (sorry, pun intended) and get it done. Don’t let it overwhelm you though as it can be an amazing way to get your home looking clean and fresh – especially if you’ve got limited space as it is! By de-cluttering your home and bringing in some subtle changes, you can not only add value but make your space feel bigger, brighter and more inviting. The best bit though? You don’t need loads of money to make it happen…

Out with the old Cost: Free

It’s human nature to collect bit and bobs, especially if items have a sentimental value but spring cleaning doesn’t mean getting rid of everything and it doesn’t have to be a scary process (honest!). While you will need to be a little ruthless, getting rid of junk will free up space to store the sentimental items you want to keep hold of. De-cluttering can make a huge difference to the aesthetics of a space and open a room up to make it look bigger and brighter – plus once you start the process it can be therapeutic (promise!)

In with the new

Now, this is where you have to be careful not to re-stock on all the useless items you have just thrown away. Here are Walkers Windows favourite, low cost items to invest in this spring to help keep your home looking lovely!

Candles Cost: £1+

Candles are great for creating atmosphere and serenity in a home and they are also a brilliant way to fragrance a home. Displaying different sized candles together make for a striking centre piece to a table or fireplace and try tea-lights dotted around a room for a calming atmosphere. You can also experiment with candle holders which come in all shapes, sizes and colours and can add a decretive touch to any room!

Plants and Flowers Cost: Free+

Bringing the outdoors in can really brighten up any room, large or small. As flowers came in a whole host of sizes and colours, you’ll have no problem finding some to suit your home. Plus, they smell gorgeous and will help bring a sense of calm to your property. Start with smaller potted plants if you’re new to keeping plants as they are easier to care for and will grow quicker. Vibrant flowers will add style and a splash of colour to a room and look great against a neutral wall or window. To create a free feature in a bigger room, try a large vase and fill it with fallen twigs and small branches then for an added extra, try wrapping some fairy lights around them!

Mirrors Cost: £5+

Mirrors are the perfect way to add style yet also make the most of a space. By introducing mirrors into a room you can instantly make it look bigger as the light reflects and bounces around the room creating an optical illusion. This also keeps the room feeling light and airy! Scout around at car boots sales and auctions for cheap decretive mirrors or hit your local Ikea/Range for cheap and simple alternatives!

Throw Cushions Cost: £5+

If your home is lacking that pop of colour and you don’t really know where to start, try adding some throw cushions! They’re a fantastic way to add a splash of colour to almost any room as they can be placed on sofas, beds, outdoor chairs and even window cills! If you have neutral walls, you can choose any colour scheme you like and even change it up when you get bored (tip: keep your cushions and just change the covers to keep this as cheap as possible). This is a cheap alternative to the daunting task of stating to paint walls or buy new furniture.

Storage Cost: £10+

Once you’ve finished your spring clean, storage is vital. Tidying away the items you’ve saved neatly is key to creating more room in your home. There are an endless number of ways you can store any number of items from vacuum packing those winter clothes you no longer need to simple storage boxes for bulkier items such as CDs and books. If you’re a bit of a hoarder and you’re struggling to free up too much room, it may be worth considering what you can store in an attic or cellar in order to help freshen up the living space in your home.

Of course, another great way to add space and freshen up a house is adding a whole new room in the shape of a conservatory or orangery. Alternatively, why not give your home a face lift with some new windows are doors from Walkers Windows.
